Vet Student with vision helps Navajo Nation

Patrick Succo, a second-year DVM student at Colorado State University, with “Blue,” a horse at CSU’s Equine Center. Succo helped to launch a veterinary outreach program to teach animal care and medical skills to high school students, livestock producers and pet owners in the Navajo Nation.

“My mother was a nurse so she would teach me how to suture an open flesh wound, or splint a broken leg,” said the 26-year-old Succo. “And my father would pick some natural herbal medicine to help our injured animal.”

Dr. Wise's Take
Veterinary professionals are among the most innovative people I know.  Often faced with limited resources, we figure out how to use what we have to help the animals we love and the people who care for them.  Patrick Succo is one of those people.  He recognized the negative impact lack of veterinary services was having on his native Navajo Nation.
